FAQs

Is timber framing better than a traditional build?

Timber frame houses are sturdier, last longer, are more energy efficient, and offer a beautiful, unique style.

How long will a timber frame house last?

It all depends on the foundation and the roof, similar to a traditional home. However, timber frame houses do tend to last longer. Just look at the European examples of timber frame houses lasting hundreds and even thousands of years.

Does it take longer to build a timber frame house?

No. At worst, the timeline is very similar to a traditional build, but at best, a timber frame house could be finished much quicker. The frame goes up quickly, but the finishing work determines the end time. If prefabricated materials (i.e., Structurally Insulated Panels; SIPs) are used for framing, the whole build can be finished quickly.

What are SIPs?

Structural insulated panels (SIPs) are a high-performance building system for residential and light commercial construction. A panel comprises an insulating foam core sandwiched between two structural facings, usually OSB. SIPs can be fabricated to fit nearly any building design, resulting in a building system that is extremely strong, energy-efficient, and cost-effective.

How do you price a timber frame house/project?

Pricing varies based on the style and specifications of each unique job. For a free estimate, call 660-280-5734.

Why do people use timber framing at all?

Besides longevity, many people find timber frame houses more aesthetically pleasing than traditional brick and block buildings. Timber frame houses often command attention for their timeless design. Not just the exterior, but with timber frame houses, you can customize the living area, entryway, and everything in between. Even after decades, hand craftsmanship will stand out and provide a wow factor.

Are there any disadvantages to building a timber frame home?

Timber frame houses can attract pests like carpenter ants, woodworms, and termites much more than brick or standard concrete houses. However, pest infestations can be avoided by properly maintaining the house. Make sure to seal all holes in your home as soon as you notice them.

Are timber frame houses environmentally friendly?

Yes, timbers are renewable, carbon-neutral, and organic, so the environmental impact of timber frame homes is minimal. On top of that, timbers don’t unleash chemicals into the air like other building materials. Thus, it will not harm the environment or human health.
